First Book Club Meeting!

We're kicking off our book club with a book that was released in 2012 and just reissued by Harper Perennial in a beautiful paperback edition, Amanda Coplin's The Orchardist!

We're very excited to dive into Amanda Coplin's debut novel, set in the Pacific Northwest at the turn of the 20th century. The story centers around Talmadge, an orchardist whose isolated life is upended by the arrival of two pregnant fugitives.

We'll meet to discuss the novel and explore its themes of loss, renewal and family. We're also hoping to touch on questions of genre--is this a "western," and if so, how does Coplin work within and against expectations for the genre? We'll have snacks and refreshments, and we'd love to see you here!
